How to Reserve a British Shorthair Kitten

Four steps, no pressure, and a proper conversation before any money changes hands. This is exactly how a reservation works at our Denver cattery, including what the deposit does and what happens if your plans change.

1. Send an inquiry

Tell us about your household: who is at home, any other pets, and what you are hoping for. We reply with questions of our own. This is the stage where we work out together whether a British Shorthair, and our cattery in particular, is the right fit.

2. Meet the kittens

In person if you are near Denver, by video call if you are not. You will see where the kittens live, meet their mother, and get parentage details and health records for both parents. If a breeder will not show you this, walk away.

3. Place a deposit

Once you have chosen, a deposit holds your kitten. You receive the written terms first and we ask you to read them properly before paying, not after. The deposit comes off the total price.

4. Collection at 12 to 14 weeks

The balance is due before collection. Your kitten goes home fully weaned, litter trained, vet checked and up to date on its schedule, with records you can hand straight to your own vet.

Deposits and Written Terms

You get the terms in writing before you pay anything. They state the full price, the deposit amount, what is included, and what happens in the situations people actually run into. There are no fees that appear at collection.

A deposit reserves one specific kitten for you. We do not take deposits on kittens that are already reserved, we do not keep a queue of people paying for the same kitten, and we will not take a deposit from someone who still sounds unsure. If you need a week to think, take the week.

What Comes Home With Your Kitten

  • Vet health check and the vaccinations due at that age, with written records.
  • Parasite treatment up to date.
  • Current food, so you can change diet gradually rather than overnight.
  • A blanket that smells of the litter and their mother.
  • Written care notes for the first two weeks.
  • Our phone number, for as long as you have the cat.

If Plans Change

Life happens, and the written terms cover it rather than leaving it to a disagreement later. If you need to move to a later litter, we will usually carry your deposit across. If a kitten turns out not to be ready on the expected date, you are not penalised for our timetable slipping.

And if things go wrong years from now, we would rather take the cat back than see it listed on a classifieds site. That offer does not expire.

Joining the Waiting List

If nothing currently available suits you, the waiting list costs nothing to join and carries no obligation. We contact people on it before a litter is advertised publicly, which in practice is how most of our kittens are placed.
